increased security at this school. i don't know about you guys, brian and steve, my kid's schools have been sending a lot of e-mails. we also live in connecticut about what is the new plan of action now. how do we move forward? we'll have armed security guards outside of the school for two weeks. how long does that last. do we have the funding or does it make sense culturally to do that moving forward. there is it a lot of calls from former education bill bennett. teachers should be armed in the schools. what is the answer here. what have we come to? i am not sure any of us will >> peter: the president of the united states said thippings have got to change. we are not doing enough to protect our children. if anything good comes out of what happened in sandy hook, it will not just be a dialogue about gun control. there is a lot of gun laws on the books and they are uneven. >> brian: and not enforced. mr. #1: and not just the guns, but a larger discussion of how to stop glorifying violence in video games and television shows and movies as well. i got a feeling we are at a tipping point. >> br

? >> "outfront" tonight, mark glaze is the director of the group mayors against illegal guns. steve doolan of the michigan coalition for responsible gun owners. mark, i will start with you. you heard from the nra a real focus not so much on guns, really talking about mental illness. they talked about tracking people who are mentally ill and pretty much everything, not about taking away guns but adding more guns. what did you make of their news conference today? >> you know, as somebody who's watched the organization for a while, my dad was a licensed gun dealer in colorado, i know a lot of nra members, it was a really surprising performance. the nra is usually quite smart. then again, they've never been under pressure like this. the truth is, it struck me as incoherent and bordering on detached from reality. talking about things lapierre gets paid a lot of money to talk about on a regular basis. it was not the time to say things even nra members don't believe. i think it is important as we have this debate that nra members are not the washington leadership. they're two very different thing

known, the retirement of vice president kevin martin and the retirement of our paralegal, steve johnson. that most recently happened two weeks ago. we are definitely going to fill the void that steve has left, i hope to fill the void and fill the shoes of kevin martin. we know it's a lot to ask but i can assure you that president delanus and i will make every effort to work with the chief as we have done since being on the executive board of the poa for the last 9 years. but before i do i want to acknowledge kevin martin who has 28 years of service not just with the san francisco police department but the san francisco sheriff's department and especially acknowledge steve johnson, who joined the san francisco police department in 1971, served 30 years and since that time has worked tirelessly along with kevin for the rights of our members and he has worked with every commissioner here. he's going to be a big loss to the poa, he wanted to be here tonight, he could not make it. he is in good health and spirits but i do have letters to each one of the commissioners on behalf of steve.

to check in with steve paulson for an update on the very cold weather. a pretty sunrise. >> we do have very, very cold readings, crystal clear. it's cold this morning. freeze warning is out. it's so cold that lori myers in walnut creek sent us this picture of her cat, chili dog parked right in front of the heater. i love it. if your cat is there, i understand as well. temperatures when you get in the 20s, it's really cold. cold morning, turning cloudy tomorrow. it will be warmer. if you have to travel, thursday or monday, later or sooner, friday, saturday and sunday will be very dicey especially if you are heading north towards redding or even shasta. there's already -- it's already beginning to kick in around oregon and washington. it will be very dicey. freeze warning out for the north bay goes another 45, 47 minutes. frost advisory, the stronger the two advisories, a lot of won'ts in the -- a lot of 20s in the north. 28 napa. that's at the airport but it's closer to town. fairfield, 27. concord, livermore, 30. redwood city, 23. i've seen 29 palo alto. a lot of 30s around mill valley and

on the left and steve grinch on the right and they responded to a call about a newborn baby in distress early wednesday morning in the air of third and mckinen. they found the infant outside wrapped up in a blanket. he was in the arms of a man believed to be a relative of the mother. the infant's face was blue and the baby was not breathing when fers got there and they knew it would take at least 15 minutes for an ambulance to arrive so the two officers decided to race to fs general themselves, and officer grinch performed infant cpr on the newborn lying on his lap in the car. >> abject panic. you find a child who is not breathing and clearly, it was a newborn, and it was obvious it was a newborn. >> i was driving out of my peripheral, i could see him doing the cpr and i could hear him crying, and talking to the baby. just telling the baby to come back and breathe. so you know, that is something i will never forget. >> reporter: now, doctors at san francisco general told police the baby boy is in stable condition. although he is still in the hospital. he is expected to be okay. the mother of
